National Youth Choir Guest Conductor – Search Guidelines

The candidate must be

  • a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • a member in good standing of Choral Canada
  • be actively working in the Canadian choral community

Nominations may be submitted by: 

  • conductors of the general Choral Canada membership
  • former National Youth Choir conductors

Selection criterion is based on: 

  • letter of nomination
  • candidate’s established record of excellence in choral music making
  • candidate’s established career as a choral conductor
  • proven ability of candidate to work effectively with singers aged 18-25

Nomination submission should include: 

  • letter of nomination 
  • completed nomination questions (see below)
  • biography and brief CV (if possible) of candidate
  • names of two conductors who support nomination


Nomination questions to be answered as thoroughly as possible. Insufficient information may result in the nomination not being considered: 

  1. How long and in what capacity have you known the candidate?
  2. How long has the candidate had an established career as a choral conductor?
  3. What ensembles has the candidate conducted in the past 10 years, and what ensembles is the candidate currently conducting?
  4. Please describe briefly
    • the candidate’s rehearsal procedure
    • the candidate’s programming
    • the candidate’s concert performances
