Choral music has the incredible power to unite, inspire, and transform lives! Across Canada, post-secondary student choirs and singing groups are bursting with talent and creativity and it is worth celebrating! That’s why we’re excited to introduce the Choral Canada Student Chapter Showcase—a vibrant initiative to celebrate these groups and ignite a passion for group singing among students.
Project Overview
The Choral Canada Student Chapter Showcase is a monthly, non-competitive initiative inspired by the CBC School Song competition. This project invites choirs and singing groups from any post-secondary educational institution from across Canada to participate in a celebration of music, creativity, and community. This also includes formal and informal groups of post-secondary students who are not part of a Faculty/School of Music.
Each month, participating groups will post a recording of a song aligned with the designated theme to their social media and tag Choral Canada in the post. These posts will then be featured on Choral Canada’s social media platforms, showcasing the diversity and talent of Canadian student singing groups!
Goals
- Promotion: Elevate the visibility of post-secondary singing groups from across Canada.
- Engagement: Encourage more students to join and support their local singing groups.
- Inspiration: Provide a platform for student singing groups to share their artistry and inspire their peers.
- Community Building: Create a sense of unity and collaboration among post-secondary singing groups across Canada.
How It Works
-
Monthly Themes: Each month will feature a unique theme to inspire creativity (e.g., “Voices in Canada” or “Winter Wonders”). Themes will be announced at the start of each month.
-
Submissions:
-
Groups will record and upload a performance that aligns with the theme.
-
Submissions can be pre-recorded videos or audio recordings with an accompanying visual presentation. Deadlines will be communicated well in advance of submissions to ensure timely posting
-
Showcase:
-
All approved submissions will be shared on Choral Canada’s social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook.
-
Posts will include a brief description of the group, their institution, the chosen song and how it fits the theme.
-
Engagement:
-
Followers will be encouraged to like, share, and comment on the performances, amplifying the reach of these wonderful groups.
-
A monthly feature article on Choral Canada’s newsletter will highlight submissions and provide further insights into the participating groups.
Licensing
Each group is responsible for securing the licenses/permissions from the copyright holders of the music being uploaded to the video sharing platform (eg. YouTube) and securing permission from all singers/individuals involved in the music video. If you have questions about this, please contact Choral Canada at [email protected].
